Thai Massage

Learn the art of this unique and powerful bodywork which combines passive stretching techniques and thumb pressure, similar to acupressure. Thai  Massage dates back to ancient times over 2500 years ago .   It was originally practised in temples in Thailand by Buddhist monks as a means of invigorating the mind and body.

Many benefits include gentle muscle stretching, increasing flexibility, deep relaxation, improving posture, relieving muscular tension and  joint mobility,  and  improving the free flow of energy (prana) throughout the body.   Thai massage has a vast array of techniques and practitioners work in a meditative state and use their hands, palms, thumbs, elbows, feet and knees to help remove blockages and stimulate the energy flow. The client remains fully clothed.  Thai massage is one of the most beneficial therapies for treating physical and emotional problems, maintaining health and well being.

The course is open to everyone whether a complete beginner or qualified practitioner. The routine is taught on a mat on the floor.  This means a certain level of agility and flexibility is required. If you have problems sitting on the floor or on your knees, then this course is not recommended for you.

Teacher Penelope McGeown

Penny decided to start studying Holistic Massage when she became a Personal Trainer over 10 years ago.  She recognised that Massage and a more comprehensive understanding of how the body works could improve the well being of her clients as they age and, in case of an injury, improve the healing process.

Thai massage was her third course.  She went to Chaing Mai in Thailand on a 10 day course.  She has always had a love for Thailand and its people.  Their general philosophy is to always leave people better than you found them, and a good Thai massage always does that.

The routine you will learn in this workshop will help realign ligaments and tendons and relax the body and mind. It is also a great stretch routine which is beneficial for everyone.
